The site
A Boise backyard that started as a blank canvas

The Story

The brief

This Boise backyard began as a blank canvas. The plan put a stamped-concrete patio at its center, with planting, irrigation and lighting built around it.

The design

The stamp pattern was chosen to complement the architecture of the house, and several colors are worked into the concrete for depth, so the surface comes close to the look of natural stone. It gives a durable base for outdoor furniture and for entertaining.

The build

Around the patio, a new irrigation system supports the planting: perennials and shrubs chosen because they are hardy in Idaho, for interest through the year. Outdoor lighting highlights key features and adds safety and security after dark.

Living in it

The lighting is set for different moods: brighter task light for dining, softer ambient light for relaxing. One team handled the yard from the first design to the final installation.

What made it work

Three Decisions That Shaped It.

  • Color Worked Into the ConcreteSeveral colors in the stamped concrete give it depth, close to the look of natural stone in a durable poured surface.
  • A Pattern Chosen for the HouseThe stamp pattern was picked to complement the home's architecture, so patio and house belong together.
  • Light for Dinner, Light for LaterBrighter task lighting for dining and softer ambient lighting for relaxing let the yard change mood through the evening.
